 After having two previous chimney huxters arrive at my home and attempt (unsuccessfully) to triple their initial charges, I lucked upon Mark of LA Sweep. He arrived at my home, explained how wise I was not to fall for the chimney scams that were foisted on me, and then cleaned my chimney, quickly, with humor and kindness. He made wise recommendations about upkeep and improvements and then merrily went along with his day. Highly recommend. Honesty is, unfortunately, a rare commodity in todays dog eat dog world. Mark is a throwback to helpfulness, kindness, and neighborliness.

 Mark was so helpful and got our fireplace top repaired and fixed after a big wind storm. He honestly saved us 1,000's of dollars as another chimney repair group told us we would have to replace the entire fireplace costing in the range of $7k!!! It was all not necessary and Mark got it all sorted for under $300. Highly recommend!! He also fixed my brothers chimney in the hollywood hills!

 Mark, the owner and person behind The LA Sweep, is an incredibly knowledgeable, instructive, kind, and helpful person. He came promptly on time, did a thorough inspection of our 100-year-old chimney, and did a great cleaning job of it. Most importantly was Mark's willingness and patience in answering my many questions! I've never had a fireplace before so I had a lot of questions and he was there to answer each and every one of them. I learned a lot. And his rate was incredibly fair. We even tipped him a bit extra because we were surprised by how low the cost was. I highly recommend him. I'd also love to grab a beer with him sometime too

Fraud

WARNING:  Avoid Inspection Fraud.  Recent examples:


1.  Adams district:  $65,000 to tear down and replace one chimney and repair the second one.  I reinspected it and cleaned both and installed two chimney caps for $699.


2. Inglewood:  $55,000 to tear down one chimney and rebuild.  It had a big crack in the "STUCCO".  Not the chimney.  I cleaned it and installed a chimney cap for $250.


3.  Central L.A. $45,00 to tear down chimney at the roof line.  I am going to clean it, install a damper and chimney cap for $799.


This happens just during a regular chimney sweep as well.  Be careful with these people.  Call me.  I don't do fraud and I can probably help you if one of these companies tries to "over charge" you.

Orchid Rescue
The story: I'm a plant person, especially orchids. I did an inspection in Mar Vista and the house was empty and being remodeled for sale.  I noticed  a few orchids in a small tree out front.  I mentioned it to the owners who had inherited the home from their father.  They said "Yes, my father had lots of orchids.  He had pots and pots of them everywhere."  I said: "What happened to them?"  They said: "We threw them all in a big dumpster." Needless to say, I rescued the two orchids that were left.  I rescue plants, especially orchids.
